The Pittsburgh Pirates had very little trouble at Jack Murphy Stadium downing
the San Diego Padres.  The score was 6 to 1.

Pittsburgh started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first when they tallied 2 runs on 3 hits.  That early scoring held up.
San Diego was out-hit by Pittsburgh, 10 hits to 5.  

Bruce Kison(3-4) went 7 innings allowing 1 run for the win. The loss was
charged to Randy Jones(8-3).  He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 7 hits and
no walks.

It was a laugher out at Jack Murphy Stadium.  The San Diego Padres squad
ripped Pittsburgh pitching for a total of 11 runs.  Dave Freisleben(5-3),
with relief help from Jim Todd, held Pittsburgh to 1 run.

San Diego went ahead for good in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits.
That early scoring was all that Freisleben needed.  San Diego had 12 hits
overall, while Pittsburgh had 5.  

Larry Demery(1-3) absorbed the loss.  He pitched 6 innings giving up 6 hits
and 5 walks.

Charlie Spikes had 3 base hits as the San Diego Padres staged a dramatic
comeback over the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 6 to 5 at Jack Murphy
Stadium.

San Diego scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2
runs using 2 hits.  Johnny Grubb led off and started the rally when he
doubled.  Two outs later Dave Winfield came up and he smashed a two-run homer
(his 5th of the season) making San Diego victorious to the delight of the the
home town crowd.  San Diego managed 10 in their victory.  

Joe Coleman(1-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning.
The losing pitcher was Grant Jackson(0-2) in relief.  He surrendered 2 runs
and 2 hits in 2/3 of an inning.
