Game 1 Dave Kingman smacked 2 homeruns as the Chicago NL Cubs defeated the Montreal Expos by a score of 4 to 3 at Wrigley Field.
Chicago NL scored 1 run in the 7th inning. Montreal threatened in the 9th but Chicago NL was able to put down the rally.
The winning pitcher was Darold Knowles (4-1) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Tippy Martinez earned his 21st save. Frank Tanana (7-6) was tagged with the loss. He was knocked around by Chicago NL, allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Game 2 40,412 fans were treated to a fine game at Wrigley Field as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Chicago NL Cubs won by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Ray Burris (7-6) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 6 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd inning.

Game 4 Rick Monday had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Wrigley Field as the Chicago NL Cubs beat the slumping Montreal Expos in 14 innings by the count of 6 to 5.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Chicago NL came out on top in the 14th inning. Barry Foote lined a base-hit. After another out, Bobby Tolan was the next batter, but he struck out. Bill Madlock then hit a single. Monday came up and he delivered a single giving Chicago NL the victory as 47,204 happy fans celebrated wildly. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
Bo McLaughlin (3-0) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. Chip Lang (3-6) was hit with the loss in relief. The Chicago NL ballclub's record now stands at 40-34.
