It was a hard-fought series and each game could have gone either way. Game 1: The Mets threw away numerous attempts to put the game away. However, so did the Dodgers. Apodaca and Lockwood combined for 6 scoreless innings and Keith Hernandez finally came through with a clutch hit in the 13th. Game 2: Craig Swan settled down after a rocky start and the Mets chipped away at the lead in the late innings. Unfortunately Dave Tomlin wasn't quite as sharp as his right-handed colleagues and grooved one too many pitches. Game 3: Pat Zachry's wildness got him into trouble frequently but he kept managing to get out of it unscathed. Johnny Bench was the extent of the Mets' offense with a 2nd-inning homer. Skip Lockwood continued his campaign for an All-Star berth with 5 scoreless innings, a win, and a save. Bob Apodaca says, "Don't forget about me -- my ERA's around 1.5 as well!"
