The Washington Senators ended a long winless drought and defeated the New York
AL Yankees by a score of 6 to 2 at Griffith Stadium.
New York AL was unable to recover after Washington went ahead in the 4th
inning with 2 runs using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Larry Doby began
things off when he smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'. Earl Torgeson stepped up
next and he ripped a solo home run. Both teams totaled 6 hits on the night.
Spec Shea(1-4) allowed 2 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Shea
got help from Bob Turley who was credited with his 2nd save. Max
Surkont(3-1) took the loss. He allowed just 4 hits and no walks in 6
innings.
'It's been a rough ride lately, but this was a good win for us' said Bucky
Harris, 'Maybe this will put us back on track.'
