Barr(5-8) was very good in the win. He allowed just 6 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. San Francisco had 7 hits for the night.

Right fielder Bobby Murcer had 2 base hits at Busch Stadium as the San Francisco Giants won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the reeling St. Louis Cardinals by the count of 6 to 3.
San Francisco had the game winning rally in the 9th inning as they scored 6 runs on 6 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Dave Rader who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he stroked a base-hit bringing in two baserunners. For the game San Francisco out-hit St. Louis 9 to 6.
Dave Heaverlo(2-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing 1 run. The losing pitcher was Al Hrabosky(1-5) in relief. He was unable to retire a batter allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

The St. Louis Cardinals were able to stop their 6 game losing streak and nipped the San Francisco Giants 5 to 4 at Busch Stadium in a hard fought contest.
Paul Hartzell(3-2) came on to close the door tight in relief. He did not allow a baserunner in his 1 inning. Hartzell was helped out by Al Hrabosky who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 15th save.
John Montefusco(6-9) was given the loss. 'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Steve Dewing sighed. 'That win feels like a tall, cool drink of water after spending far too much time in the desert lately.'
