The San Francisco Giants defeated the Atlanta Braves in 10 innings by a score of 8 to 5 at Fulton Cnty. Stadium.
The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings. San Francisco came out the victor in the 10th inning. Tom Grieve got things rolling when he delivered a solo blast (his 15th of the season). Bobby Murcer was next and he delivered a base-hit. Charlie Hough then was wild with a pitch. Bill Buckner followed and he tripled scoring one more run. Darrell Evans came to the plate and laced a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. San Francisco finished with 10 hits in the victory.
The winning pitcher was Randy Moffitt(4-3) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Hough(6-6) absorbed the loss in relief. San Francisco scored big getting 4 runs off him in 2 innings.

Fergie Jenkins reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts at Fulton Cnty. Stadium as the Atlanta Braves won in their last at-bat beating the San Francisco Giants by the count of 3 to 2.
The deciding run was scored by Atlanta in the 9th. Rico Carty drew a walk. Willie Montanez was next and he doubled. After an out was recorded, Biff Pocoroba came to the plate and laced a base-knock resulting in a mighty exciting win for Atlanta and the 39,819 home town fans in attendance. Atlanta banged out 8 on the night.
Joe Niekro(7-8) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Ed Halicki(3-10) was given the loss. He surrendered 3 runs and 7 hits in 8 innings.

San Francisco took the lead for good in the 7th inning as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Healy who silenced the crowd when he doubled scoring two baserunners. Atlanta made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Randy Moffitt(5-3) got the win allowing 1 run in 4 innings. Mike Marshall(5-6) suffered the loss in relief. Despite losing Tom Austad was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over this one.
