Rennie Stennett had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Three Rivers Stadium where the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11 to 7.

It was a good day for Pittsburgh thanks to Stennett.  He doubled in the 1st
inning, doubled in the 4th inning, tripled which was good for two runs in the
7th inning and delivered a base-hit plating two runs in the 8th inning.
Pittsburgh had 16 hits for the game and Los Angeles had 10.

Gene Garber(6-4) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. Tom
Burgmeier(3-6) was hit with the loss in relief.  He gave up 5 hits and no
walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.

Tommy John(10-6) and Bruce Kison(9-10) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with
John and the Los Angeles Dodgers coming out on top of the Pittsburgh Pirates
2 to 1.

Pittsburgh was unable to claim the lead after Los Angeles went ahead in the
2nd inning scoring a single run.  Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their
rally came up short.

Tom Burgmeier earned the save, his 18th.  'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said
Darren Dawson 'but it's losing the close ones that really hurt.'
