august 1 Rennie Stennett had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Three Rivers Stadium where the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11 to 7. It was a good day for Pittsburgh thanks to Stennett. He doubled in the 1st inning, doubled in the 4th inning, tripled which was good for two runs in the 7th inning and delivered a base-hit plating two runs in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh had 16 hits for the game and Los Angeles had 10. Gene Garber(6-4) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. Tom Burgmeier(3-6) was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 5 hits and no walks in 1 and 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh set the tone of the game in the first inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 base hits. That was all the runs John Candelaria(15-5) needed. Los Angeles could do no damage in the 9th.
