Ted Simmons had 3 base hits and 4 RBI at Busch Stadium as the St. Louis
Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 4 to 2.
Bob Forsch(4-9) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He gave up just 5
hits and 1 walk in 8 and 2/3 innings improving his ERA from 5.14 to 4.90.
Pittsburgh made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.
Forsch got relief help from Mickey Scott who gained credit for his 1st save.
Grant Jackson(3-8) was the losing pitcher. Darren Dawson was subdued when
questioned after the game, 'Sure, this kind of loss takes a while to get
over, but heck, we're all professionals. We've been through this many times
- it's the nature of the game. We'll be fine - as for me - I'll be ready to
go again tomorrow!'

John Candelaria had a strong outing and Richie Zisk jacked one out of the
ballyard and had 4 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis
Cardinals by the score of 6 to 0 at Busch Stadium.
The St. Louis fans didn't appreciate the big day Zisk had. He lined a
one-base hit which scored a run in the 2nd inning and belted a three-run
homer (his 14th of the season) in the 3rd inning. The pitchers took over
after the 3rd inning as neither team was able to score again.
Candelaria(15-5) was the winner allowing no runs in 6 innings. Dave Hamilton
was credited with his 3rd save. Eric Rasmussen(7-8) suffered the loss. He
gave up 6 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings of work.
