Rick Rhoden had a strong outing at Dodger Stadium where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 4 to 1.
Rhoden(8-9) gave a fine effort for Los Angeles. He allowed 1 hit and 2 walks in 6 innings. For the game Los Angeles out-hit San Francisco 10 to 2.
Rhoden got relief help from Tom Burgmeier who gained credit for his 20th save. John D'Acquisto(1-6) was given the loss. He pitched 4 and 1/3 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 walk.

John Montefusco dominated striking out 12 Los Angeles batters as the San Francisco Giants topped the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 2 to 1 at Dodger Stadium.
Montefusco(8-11) was tremendous on the mound for San Francisco. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings. San Francisco had 9 hits for the night.
Burt Hooton(12-7) was the loser. He allowed 7 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. 'Montefusco gave us exactly what we needed tonight,' Bob Mittleman said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really fooled by his change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.'

In a dramatic ending, the Los Angeles Dodgers staged a comeback win over the pitiful San Francisco Giants by the count of 6 to 5.
Los Angeles had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Lee Lacy initiated the scoring spurt when he lined a base-hit. Steve Garvey next to the plate and he cracked a two-run shot (his 11th of the season) giving Los Angeles the victory and sending the 29,660 home-town fans home happy. San Francisco was out-hit by Los Angeles, 15 hits to 7.
Tom Murphy(6-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no runs. Randy Moffitt(5-4) suffered the loss in relief.
'What a win!', Murphy said. 'These are the kind of games that stand out in your mind at the end of a season.'

In a close game it was the Los Angeles Dodgers 5, the league door-mat San Francisco Giants 3 at Dodger Stadium.
Los Angeles brought 3 runs across the plate in the 3rd inning when they had 5 base hits. The highlight belonged to Chet Lemon who made the Los Angeles fans a happy lot when he delivered a one-base hit which was good for two runs. San Francisco had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Don Sutton(6-14) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Marty Pattin recorded the save, his 8th. Rob Dressler(5-11) took the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.
