giving us a chance to win.'

Left fielder Gary Matthews left the yard and had 3 RBI as the Los Angeles
Dodgers outscored the Chicago NL Cubs in 10 innings 4 to 3.

The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings.  Finally, Los Angeles pulled
the game out in the 10th inning.  Lee Lacy led off and started the rally when
he stroked a one-base hit.  Matthews was next and he doubled plating a run.
After an out was recorded, Steve Garvey stepped in and he would hit into a
fielders choice scoring the final run of the inning.  Despite losing, Chicago
NL out-hit Los Angeles 11 to 8.

Burt Hooton(13-7) got the win allowing 2 runs in 9 innings. Hooton was helped
out by Marty Pattin who recorded his 9th save.  Bruce Sutter(7-7) was the
loser in relief.

Los Angeles now has a record of 62-70.  Chicago NL has a record of 69-63 after
