In a tight game it was the New York AL Yankees 5, the Chicago AL White Sox 3
at Comiskey Park.
New York AL had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. Hank Bauer led off and started the attack as he
doubled. Gil McDougald stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk.
Karl Olson then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Mickey Mantle was up next and he
slapped a single. Mantle took second on the throw. Ray Herbert relieved and
was untouched by Chicago AL as he recorded the save, his 4th.
The victory went to Mike Clark(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Billy Pierce(20-4) was the losing pitcher. The New York AL ballclub's record
now stands at 53-55. With this loss, Chicago AL has a 5-5 record of late,
75-33 overall.
