Phil Niekro pitched 7 strong innings as the Atlanta Braves beat the Los
Angeles Dodgers by a score of 4 to 3.

Atlanta took the lead for good in the 2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on 2
hits.  The key at-bat was by Niekro who elicited a roar from the hometown
fans when he doubled bringing in two baserunners.  Los Angeles threatened in
the 9th but their rally came up short.

Niekro(18-11) went 7 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Niekro got help from
Charlie Hough who earned his 27th save.  Rick Rhoden(8-11) ended up with the
loss.

With this win, Atlanta has a 65-74 record.  They have been 3-7 lately.  With
this loss, Los Angeles has a 4-6 record of late, 64-75 overall.
