At Wrigley Field, the Chicago NL fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Rick Reuschel(13-15) finally bested his San Francisco opposite, Jim Barr(10-12), by the score of 3 to 1.
Chicago NL jumped on top of San Francisco in the 5th inning scoring one runner on 2 hits. Reuschel was helped out by Tippy Martinez who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 41st save.
Barr absorbed the loss. He allowed 8 hits and no walks in 8 innings.

Jerry Morales had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago NL Cubs won in dramatic fashion over the hapless San Francisco Giants by a score of 4 to 3 at Wrigley Field.
Chicago NL won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3 hits. Bill Madlock started the inning off right when he banged out a single. Rick Monday came next and he doubled. Morales then doubled giving Chicago NL the victory and sending the 47,737 home-town fans home happy. Chicago NL finished with 12 hits while San Francisco ended up with 7.
Darold Knowles(6-4) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Randy Moffitt(5-6) ended up with the loss in relief. 'What a win!', Knowles said. 'These are the kind of games that stand out in your mind at the end of a season.'

The win was credited to Andy Messersmith(18-8) who went 7 innings allowing 1 run. Tippy Martinez got the save, his 42nd. Rob Dressler(6-12) was the losing pitcher.
It was another victory for Chicago NL at Wrigley Field. Now their winning streak stands at 6 games.

At Wrigley Field the seemingly unstoppable Chicago NL Cubs tallied 5 runs in the 7th inning and easily handled the San Francisco Giants by the score of 10 to 6.
Al Hrabosky(2-6) won the game with a masterful relief performance. No one got on base in his 1 inning. Chicago NL had a total of 13 hits for the game.
Reggie Cleveland(9-9) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.
