Hank Bauer had 3 base hits at Griffith Stadium as the New York AL Yankees beat
the Washington Senators 3 to 2.
Allie Reynolds(1-0) gave New York AL a solid outing. He went 7 innings
allowing 7 hits and 4 walks. Washington had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.
Joe Black gained credit for his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Bob
Porterfield(0-1). He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3
innings.
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' New York AL's manager said after the game. 'Reynolds did not
have command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew
how to pitch!'

Harry Perkowski(1-0) and Max Surkont(0-1) locked horns in a pitcher's duel
with Perkowski and the Washington Senators coming out on top of the New York
AL Yankees 3 to 0.
Washington delivered all the runs required in the 3rd inning scoring 3 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. Perkowski led off and keyed the rally when he
delivered a one-base hit. Jackie Jensen next to the plate and he doubled.
Connie Ryan then drew a walk to load the bases. Larry Doby dug into the
batters box next, but he struck out. One out later, Joe Adcock stepped up to
the plate and he tripled. That early scoring was all that Perkowski needed.
The pitchers took over after the 3rd inning as neither team was able to score
again.
Perkowski was helped out by Monte Kennedy who recorded his 1st save.
