They almost ran out of baseballs at Briggs Stadium as Detroit Tigers clobbered
the New York AL Yankees pitching staff, scoring 12 runs while Jim
Wilson(2-1), with relief help from Turk Lown, surrendered 3 runs to New York
AL.
Dick Kryhoski helped send the fans home happy. He smashed a two-run homer in
the 2nd inning, slapped a base-hit resulting in a run in the 3rd inning and
ripped a base-knock scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning. Detroit ended
up with 14 hits for the game while New York AL had 11.
Allie Reynolds(2-1) was the loser. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 2
walks in 6 innings.

In a close game it was the New York AL Yankees 7, the Detroit Tigers 5 at
Briggs Stadium.
New York AL erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Gil
McDougald started the rally when he stroked a single. Joe Collins came next
and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run. Hank Edwards was the next
batter, but he struck out. New York AL had a total of 14 hits for the game.
Dave Madison(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Joe
Black gained credit for his 4th save. The loss was charged to Joe
Nuxhall(0-1) in relief. He allowed 4 hits and no walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.

Hoot Evers blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers defeated the
New York AL Yankees 6 to 4 at Briggs Stadium.
Evers had a big evening at the plate. He belted a three-run homer in the 5th
inning, slapped a one-base hit in the 7th inning and doubled in the 8th
inning. Overall Detroit out-hit New York AL 18 to 9.
Art Houtteman(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing
3 runs. Houtteman got help from Billy Hoeft who was credited with his 2nd
save. Johnny Klippstein(0-2) was the losing pitcher.
