Catcher Ted Simmons went deep and had 3 RBI at Fulton Co. Stadium as the St.
Louis Cardinals staged a comeback win over the Atlanta Braves by the count of
8 to 7.

St. Louis had the game winning rally in the 9th inning as they scored 4 runs
on 4 base hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Simmons who deflated
the mood of the partisan fans when he clubbed a three-run home run (his 4th
of the season).  St. Louis had 11 hits for the night.

Rollie Fingers(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and
allowing 1 run. The losing pitcher was Don Collins(0-1) in relief.

Tom Austad was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.
He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse,
yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.
Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us
tonight'
