The Los Angeles Dodgers came roaring back in the top of the ninth to spoil the
anticipated celebration of the hometown fans.  The final score,, was 6 to
4.

Los Angeles won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning when they
scored 4 runs on 4 hits.  The key at-bat was by Steve Garvey who silenced the
crowd when he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 12th of the season).
Mike Garman was perfect in relief and got the save, his 4th.

Tom Burgmeier(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Gene
Garber(0-3) was tagged with the loss in relief.  Darren Dawson was
understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.  He quickly
showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse, yet polite
response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.  Our guys gave
it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us tonight'

Left fielder Richie Zisk left the yard and had 3 RBI and Bruce Kisondelivered
8 solid innings at Three Rivers Stadium where the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the
Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 6 to 4.

Zisk enjoyed a fine evening at the plate.  He smacked a three-run homer (his
6th of the season) in the 1st inning, lashed a single in the 5th inning and
doubled in the 7th inning.  Los Angeles had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.

Kison(4-1) went 8 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Gene Garber recorded
the save, his 4th.  Marty Pattin(2-2) ended up with the loss.  He gave up 12
hits and no walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Billy Vanson was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts.  If our
guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one.
That is what really ticks me off!'
