At Three Rivers Stadium, the Pittsburgh faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  Jim Rooker(6-4) finally bested his St. Louis counterpart,
Jerry Koosman(6-5), by the score of 3 to 1.

St. Louis surrendered all of the runs Pittsburgh needed in the 3rd inning
scoring 3 runs utilizing 2 base hits.  Duffy Dyer led off and he drew a walk.
Frank Taveras next to the plate and he stroked a single.  Taveras then stole
second base.  Rooker was up next and he would ground out bringing in a run.
Omar Moreno stepped into the box and would hit into a fielders choice
bringing home one more runner.  Pittsburgh continued their aggressive style
with another stolen base.  Rennie Stennett came next and he doubled scoring
the final run of the inning.  That early scoring held up.  Both teams
finished the game with 4 hits.

Grant Jackson recorded the save, his 2nd. Koosman ended up with the loss.  He
surrendered 3 runs and 4 hits in 7 innings.
