june 2 Right fielder Dusty Baker smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago NL Cubs by a score of 8 to 3 at Wrigley Field. Baker had a big day with his bat. He lashed a single in the 3rd inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 5th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 8th of the season) in the 7th inning. Los Angeles out-hit Chicago NL for the game, 11 hits to 7. Marty Pattin(7-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings and allowing 1 run. Rick Reuschel(6-7) was hit with the loss. He allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. Baker was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the ball real well now. I made some adjustments last week and they are paying off. That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes along.' Chicago NL had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning when they scored 4 runs on 4 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Gene Clines who came through for the home fans when he blasted a two-run home run (his 5th of the season). Chicago NL had 10 hits overall, while Los Angeles had 5. Bo McLaughlin(3-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Rawly Eastwick(2-1) absorbed the loss in relief. 'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Buckner noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
