Right fielder Dusty Baker smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Los Angeles
Dodgers defeated the Chicago NL Cubs by a score of 8 to 3 at Wrigley
Field.

Baker had a big day with his bat.  He lashed a single in the 3rd inning,
bombed a two-run dinger in the 5th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly'
(his 8th of the season) in the 7th inning.  Los Angeles out-hit Chicago NL
for the game, 11 hits to 7.

Marty Pattin(7-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 1 run. Rick Reuschel(6-7) was hit with the loss.  He allowed 9 hits
and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.

Baker was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the ball
real well now.  I made some adjustments last week and they are paying off.
That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes along.'

Bill Buckner had 2 base hits as the Chicago NL Cubs staged a dramatic comeback
over the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 4 to 2 at Wrigley Field.

Chicago NL had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning when
they scored 4 runs on 4 hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Gene
Clines who came through for the home fans when he blasted a two-run home run
(his 5th of the season).  Chicago NL had 10 hits overall, while Los Angeles
had 5.

Bo McLaughlin(3-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Rawly
Eastwick(2-1) absorbed the loss in relief.  'Now there is a lesson in
perseverance for you,' Buckner noted.  'It was looking pretty dim there for a
while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And
it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'

First baseman Steve Garvey left the yard and had 2 RBI and Rick Rhodenwas
able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at
Wrigley Field where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Chicago NL Cubs 7 to
1.

The game started off with Los Angeles taking the lead in the first with 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits.  Davey Lopes led off and started the attack as he hit
a single.  Tim Foli followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Garvey then
cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 17th of the season).  The
early run support proved sufficient for Rhoden(6-5) and Los Angeles.  That
was all the run support Rhoden required.  Los Angeles rapped out 12 hits for
the night.

Bill Bonham(6-6) was charged with the loss.  He was unable to control the Los
Angeles offense and allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
