Subject: results of Los Angeles @ St Louis.............

june 9

Rick Rhoden(7-5) and Joaquin Andujar(2-8) treated the St. Louis fans to a fine
pitching duel at Busch Stadium.  The Los Angeles Dodgers eventually emerged
as victors over the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 3 to 1.

Los Angeles brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 2nd inning with
the help of 3 hits.  That scoring would be all that was needed.  The pitchers
took over after the 2nd inning as neither team was able to score again.

Rawly Eastwick got the save, his 9th.  'I always am most impressed when a
pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Billy Vanson said
after the game.  'Rhoden did not have command of his pitches most of the
night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'

Dusty Baker connected with a 'big fly' at Busch Stadium as the Los Angeles
Dodgers beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the count of 8 to 4.

Los Angeles jumped on top to stay in the 7th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits.
Chet Lemon led off the inning for Los Angeles when he was hit by a pitch.
Manny Sanguillen followed and he laced a one-base hit.  Lee Lacy then lined a
base-hit bringing in a run.  Lacy took second on the throw.  Glenn Burke
stepped in and he slapped a single scoring one more run.  Burke swiped second
base.  Terry Puhl kept things alive and hit a deep fly scoring the final run
of the inning.  Los Angeles banged out 11 on the night.

Don Sutton(5-7) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Eric
Rasmussen(9-3) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 5 hits and 1 walk in 6
innings.
