june 9 Rick Rhoden(7-5) and Joaquin Andujar(2-8) treated the St. Louis fans to a fine pitching duel at Busch Stadium. The Los Angeles Dodgers eventually emerged as victors over the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 3 to 1. Los Angeles brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 2nd inning with the help of 3 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. The pitchers took over after the 2nd inning as neither team was able to score again. Rawly Eastwick got the save, his 9th. 'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Billy Vanson said after the game. 'Rhoden did not have command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
