june 20 Dave Kingman jacked one out of the ballyard at Olympic Stadium where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Montreal Expos in 10 innings by the score of 5 to 2. The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Los Angeles ended up winning it in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Glenn Burke was the sparkplug when he lashed a single. Davey Lopes followed and he lined a single. Burke then suprised everyone by stealing home. Tim Foli stepped in and he doubled bringing in another run. Steve Garvey was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Dusty Baker contributed to the rally and doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Los Angeles took care of Montreal with no trouble in the bottom of the 10th. Mike Garman(2-2) allowed 1 run in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Steve Foucault(4-3) was hit with the loss in relief. He allowed 5 hits and no walks in 1 and 2/3 innings. It seemed that Los Angeles pitching was serving up softballs for Valentine to hit. He delivered a solo blast in the 2nd inning, lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 10th of the season) in the 5th inning and doubled resulting in a run in the 7th inning. Montreal rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon. Blue(9-8) went the distance for the shutout. Terry Forster(4-3) was the loser. He gave up 5 runs in 4 innings of work. 'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Valentine said.
