Guys, I hope you didn't think I was talking about disbanding the entire LEAGUE. :-) Not only that, we won't be disbanding any teams. Not even the Tigers, which I will handle until a new owner comes along. Furthermore there is already a significant amount of *surplus* innings on just about every team in the league, so that is not the problem and we don't need to allow even more usage than we already do. Every team will end 1952 with at least 150 unused innings on their roster; many teams will end 1952 with over 300 surplus innings and 4 teams will have over *700* unused innings. There is obviously no shortage of innings and that should not be a problem in the future either. The problems are: 1. A decreasing number of available players as we move back in time. 2. With fewer pitchers available, especially fewer *good* pitchers, allowing teams to possess far more IP than are required means that the teams on the other end of the spectrum will find it increasingly difficult to acquire quality innings in the draft. The solution will be: 1. Effective now, the draft limit is 29 players which means that teams cut down to at most 29 players after the 1952 season (instead of 30). That number must be reduced again to 28 by 1949, if not sooner. 2. Effective after the 1951 season, IP limits will take effect. The reason that we are delaying one season is because at this late date it would be unfair to force teams to cut (good) surplus pitchers with so little warning. The limits for 1950 and subsequent seasons will be: 1500 IP going into a draft 1750 IP during the season For 1950, there are 6 teams which currently possess more than 1500 IP; for 1949 there are only 2 teams which have that many IP (and they exceed the limit by less than 100 IP). The Draft Report in Strat shows exactly how many IP each team has. I have attached the preliminary 1949 and 1950 files, which may not be 100% accurate but should be close. If your team already has sufficient IP for 1950, be aware that you may need to cut some good Unrestricted pitchers to get down to the limit, so draft accordingly and try to make trades if necessary. Otherwise, cuts after 1951 are the only option remaining. Alan |
