june 27 Right fielder Dusty Baker had 2 base hits and Don Aase pitched 7 and one third strong innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago NL Cubs by the score of 2 to 0 at Wrigley Field. Los Angeles scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Baker began the rally when he slapped a one-base hit. Davey Lopes next to the plate and he drew a walk. Ron Cey then drew a walk to load the bases. Chet Lemon was the next batter, but he struck out. Manny Sanguillen came to the plate and laced a base-knock plating two runs. Pete Broberg(1-0) got help from Mike Garman who pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with his 9th save. Rick Reuschel(9-11) suffered the loss. Los Angeles now has a record of 49-36. With the loss, the Chicago NL ballclub's record is 30-55, worst in the division. Chicago NL scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 8th inning scoring 3 runs using 3 hits. Jerry Morales led off and he drew a walk. Larry Biittner got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Ken Reitz then laced a base-hit. Rawly Eastwick then let one slip out of his hand for a wild pitch. Buckner came to the plate and hit a single, and an error was also committed, bringing in two baserunners. One out later, Gene Clines stepped up to the plate and he smacked a single scoring the final run of the inning. Overall Chicago NL out-hit Los Angeles 12 to 9. The win went to Paul Reuschel(1-3) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 1/3 innings. Reuschel got help from Bruce Sutter who was credited with his 14th save. Eastwick(3-2) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 3 runs and 3 hits in 1 inning.
