First baseman Willie Stargell cracked a homer and had 2 RBI at Riverfront
Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds by the count of 6
to 4.

The game was won by Pittsburgh with a run in the 8th inning.  Stargell
doubled.  Rennie Stennett got his chance to keep things going, but he went
down on strikes.  After another out, Ed Ott came up and he slapped a single
scoring the run.  Pittsburgh out-hit Cincinnati for the game, 13 hits to 8.

The winning pitcher was Dave Laroche(4-3) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Laroche got relief help from Gene Garber who gained credit for his 13th save.
Paul Moskau(0-2) ended up with the loss.  He got hit pretty hard, allowing
11 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Rennie Stennett had 3 base hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the
Cincinnati Reds in 13 innings by a score of 6 to 5 at Riverfront
Stadium.

The score was tied at 4 after nine.  Pittsburgh came out on top in the 13th
inning.  After two outs Bill Robinson started the attack as he drew a walk.
Phil Garner next to the plate and he laced a base-knock.  Al Oliver then drew
a walk to load the bases.  Ed Ott was up next and he smacked a single scoring
two teammates.  Cincinnati had 15 hits in the game while Pittsburgh had 11,
but Pittsburgh had the more timely hits.  

The victory was credited to Gene Garber(2-4) who went 2 innings, allowing 1
run. Milt Wilcox(4-4) absorbed the loss in relief.

The Pittsburgh Pirates easily topped the Cincinnati Reds; the final score was
11 to 6.

Obviously without his best stuff, John Candelaria(12-6) still hung on to pick
up the win.  He gave up 8 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings and allowed 2 gopher
balls.  Pittsburgh managed 13 in their victory.  

Candelaria got help from Grant Jackson who was credited with his 7th save.
Dock Ellis(5-9) was the losing pitcher.  He got hit hard, allowing 13 hits
and 4 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.

Tom Seaver completed the game without help from the bullpen as the phenomenal
Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 9 to 4 at
Riverfront Stadium.

Cincinnati scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning with the help of 4
hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Pete Rose who made the crowd come
alive when he belted a three-run homer (his 7th of the season).  Cincinnati
had a total of 10 hits for the game.  

Seaver(17-2), allowing 4 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Jackie
Brown(6-9) suffered the loss.  He allowed 8 hits and 5 walks in 5 innings.

The Cincinnati ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 64-38. With
the loss, Pittsburgh has a record of 6-4 lately, 53-49 overall.
