Richie Zisk connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates
defeated the struggling New York NL Mets by the score of 2 to 1 at Three
Rivers Stadium.
 
Jim Rooker(12-7) earned his pay with a solid performance for Rooker.  He
surrendered 4 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.  Gene Garber was perfect
in the ninth giving him his 16th save on the season. 
 
Ken Kravec(10-7) ended up with the loss.  He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings.

Shortstop Chris Speier had 3 base hits as the New York NL Mets defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to 3 at Three Rivers Stadium.
 
New York NL went ahead for good in the 2nd inning when they scored 2 runs on 3
hits.  New York NL had 10 hits for the night. 
 
The winning pitcher was Nino Espinosa(10-7) who allowed 2 runs in 5 and 1/3
innings. Espinosa got help from Rich Gossage who earned his 25th save.  Bruce
Kison(10-7) took the loss. 
 
'It's been a rough ride lately, but this was a good win for us' said Jon
Fellows, 'Maybe this will put us back on track.'

First baseman Bill Robinson went deep and had 2 RBI at Three Rivers Stadium as
the New York NL Mets lost a heartbreaker to Pittsburgh Pirates by the score
of 4 to 3.
 
Pittsburgh scored the deciding run in the 9th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Robinson smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 26th of the season)
making Pittsburgh the winners and sending the 48,106 fans home happy.
Pittsburgh totaled 8 on the night. 
 
Grant Jackson(4-3) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. The losing
pitcher was Skip Lockwood(3-2) in relief.  He surrendered 1 run and 1 hit in
1/3 of an inning. 
 
The Pittsburgh ballclub's record now stands at 63-54. With the loss, New York
NL has a record of 3-7 lately, 71-50 overall.
