april 10 Charley Smith jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the New York AL Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins 6 to 4 at Metropolitan Stadium. New York AL took the lead for keeps in the top of the 6th inning as they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits. The big moment was provided by Bobby Richardson who quieted the crowd when he delivered a one-base hit scoring two baserunners. Minnesota was out-hit by New York AL, 13 hits to 8. The winning pitcher was Sam McDowell(2-0) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. Hal Reniff earned the save, his 1st. Steve Hargan(0-1) was charged with the loss. 'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' McDowell said.
