Charley Smith jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the New York AL
Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins 6 to 4 at Metropolitan Stadium.

New York AL took the lead for keeps in the top of the 6th inning as they
scored 2 runs on 3 base hits.  The big moment was provided by Bobby
Richardson who quieted the crowd when he delivered a one-base hit scoring two
baserunners.  Minnesota was out-hit by New York AL, 13 hits to 8.

The winning pitcher was Sam McDowell(2-0) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. Hal
Reniff earned the save, his 1st.  Steve Hargan(0-1) was charged with the
loss.

'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' McDowell said.
