Subject: Cubs @ Dodgers
The Cubs apparently have no offense, no starting pitching, no bullpen, no luck.... but we did somehow get a split against a far-superior Los Angeles team. Now we await break #1 of 1966 in a home game.... Game 1: Another typical Cub fiasco, where we failed miserably in all facets of the game, but since Sandy Koufax was pitching for L.A. it hardly mattered. Koufax tossed a 4-hitter & fanned 8 in the 7-0 rout. Fergie Jenkins managed a scoreless ninth, proving (to his manager's amazement) that he can, in fact, get SOMEBODY out: hang your heads in shame, Sandy, Maury & Willie. Game 2: Cubs take an early 4-0 lead, then predictably choke and lose 5-4 in the bottom of the tenth. Claude Osteen went the distance for the Dodgers. L.A. didn't break a sweat offensively, all runs scoring on gopher balls. Game 3: Cubs take an early 4-0 lead, then predictably choke it away but - stop the presses! - WIN 5-4 in 10 innings. Four consecutive singles to open the tenth plated a lone run for the Cubbies, who chose not to get greedy after that. Fergie pitched three eventful, but scoreless, innings to get the win (and wasn't even the one who blew the save in the first place). Game 4: Each team got just 4 hits, but the Cubs got the only run of the game, which scored on a second inning single by Cookie Rojas. Sonny Siebert and Mike Cuellar matched zeroes from that point onward. Alan |
