Left fielder Billy Williams jacked one out of the ballyard and Fergie Jenkins allowed Chicago NL's manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Wrigley Field where the Chicago NL Cubs beat the New York NL Mets 5 to 3.
Chicago NL wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 3 runners on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Ron Santo who made the crowd come alive when he tripled which was good for two runs. Chicago NL managed 10 in their victory.
Jenkins(2-1) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. John Buzhardt(1-1) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the Chicago NL offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.

Ken Holtzman reeled off a total of 11 strikeouts at Wrigley Field where the Chicago NL Cubs beat the New York NL Mets by the score of 4 to 2.
Holtzman(1-0) put on a good performance. He surrendered only 4 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Chicago NL had only 6 hits for the game.
Holtzman was helped out by Sonny Siebert who recorded his 1st save. Jack Fisher(1-2) suffered the loss. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Holtzman - except New York NL. New York NL's manager lamented, 'He just was 'on' this afternoon. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'
