Third baseman Mike Schmidt launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Three Rivers Stadium as the strong Montreal Expos beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 7 to 4.
Schmidt had a good evening at the plate. He smashed a two-run homer in the 6th inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 47th of the season) in the 8th inning. Montreal and Pittsburgh each finished the night with 8 hits.
The victory went to Steve Rogers(21-6) who went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs. Elias Sosa was credited with his 2nd save. Dave Laroche(5-5) was the loser in relief. He was knocked around, surrendering 4 runs in 2 innings.
