sept 5 Shortstop Tim Foli had 2 base hits at San Diego Stadium where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the hopeless San Diego Padres 8 to 2. Los Angeles set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner. Los Angeles managed 11 in their victory. The victory went to Tommy John(11-9) who went 8 innings, allowing 2 runs. Cey was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 38th of the season) in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning, slapped a single in the 7th inning and lashed a one-base hit in the 9th inning. Los Angeles kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings. The victory was credited to Mike Paxton(7-6) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs.
