Ron Cey jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the Los Angeles
Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 5 to 4.

Los Angeles jumped on top to stay in the top of the 3rd inning scoring 2
runners on 2 hits.  The highlight belonged to Cey who disappointed the
partisan crowd when he cracked a two-run shot (his 7th of the season).
Pittsburgh had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Jim Colborn(3-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing 2
runs. Terry Forster recorded his 8th save.  The loss was charged to Don
Robinson(5-5).

Don Sutton pitched 9 strong innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to 0 at Three Rivers Stadium.

Los Angeles took the lead for good in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runners on 2
hits.  That was all Sutton(4-4) needed.  Both teams totaled 5 on the night.

John Candelaria(3-2) was tagged with the loss.  'I've been working on a few
things in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a good groove.' Sutton said
after the game.  'I'm ready to start another game tomorrow!'

In a game for the baseball purist, Jim Rooker(5-2) and Bob Welch(0-1) squared
off in a tense pitching duel, Pittsburgh Pirates finally emerged victorious
over Los Angeles Dodgers, 2 to 1.

Pittsburgh tallied 2 runs in the 2nd inning.  That scoring would be all that
was needed.  Los Angeles threatened in the 9th but Pittsburgh was able to put
down the rally.

Rooker got help from Kent Tekulve who earned his 12th save.  When questioned,
Darren Dawson remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt this good - heck,
it's been a while since we had a win period!'
