Game 1 Carl Erskine went 9 strong innings as the Boston AL Red Sox beat the Chicago AL White Sox by a score of 2 to 0.
Boston AL jumped on top of Chicago AL in the top of the 2nd inning plating one base runner. That was all the runs Erskine (5-1) needed. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again.
Bob Kuzava (1-3) took the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Chicago AL 's manager said. Erskine pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.' Game 2 The Boston AL Red Sox easily topped the Chicago AL White Sox; the final score was 10 to 3.
Chicago AL fell behind quickly as the Boston AL offense came through in the first inning scoring 4 runners on 3 hits. That was all Mel Parnell (3-4) needed. Boston AL had 10 hits for the night.
Parnell got help from Saul Rogovin who was credited with his 1st save. Joe Haynes (1-2) was charged with the loss. He couldn't find the plate, issuing 6 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings. Game 3 Second baseman Cass Michaels hit a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Chicago AL White Sox outscored the Boston AL Red Sox 11 to 4.
Michaels enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He smacked a single in the 4th inning, stroked a one-base hit in the 7th inning and smacked a three-run homer in the 8th inning. For the game Chicago AL out-hit Boston AL 15 to 7.
Bob Lemon (3-4) went 8 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Joe Dobson (3-2) took the loss. The win by Chicago AL was very good news as they had been 1-9 of late. Now their seasonal record improves to 12-19. With the loss, Boston AL has a record of 4-6 lately, 18-13 overall. Game 4 The Boston AL Red Sox got by the Chicago AL White Sox at Comiskey Park . The final score was 4 to 2.
Willie Ramsdell (3-0) gave a fine effort for Boston AL . He went 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 4 walks. Boston AL had 9 hits for the night.
Mickey Harris recorded his 8th save. Billy Pierce (3-3) ended up with the loss. 'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Ramsdell said, 'this was one of those times.'
