Los Angeles erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 4 hits. Lee Lacy led off and started the rally when he stroked a single. Buck Martinez was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Davey Lopes then doubled knocking in a run. After another out, Roger Metzger came to the plate and tripled plating another run. Ron Cey came to the plate and drew a walk. Steve Garvey added to the outburst and slapped a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. Both teams finished the game with 12 hits. Terry Forster(3-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no runs. The losing pitcher was Ron Reed(2-2) in relief. Los Angeles, who had been struggling lately, moved their record to 25-35. They are now 2-8 in their last ten games. San Diego will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run - and not a start of a new trend.
