Game 1 Mel Parnell was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Boston AL Red Sox defeated the St. Louis AL Browns by the score of 5 to 3 at Sportsman's Park.
Boston AL took the lead for good in the top of the 7th inning scoring one runner on 3 base hits. Boston AL took care of St. Louis AL with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
Parnell (15-13) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Harry Taylor (0-1) took the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 6 hits in 8 innings. Game 2 Shortstop Vern Stephens hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI and Larry Jansen tossed a fine 2 hitter as the St. Louis AL Browns bested the Boston AL Red Sox 10 to 1 at Sportsman's Park.
St. Louis AL took the lead off Joe Dobson in the first inning plating an isolated run on 2 hits. St. Louis AL finished with 11 hits in the victory.
The win went to Jansen (17-16) who allowed 1 run in the game. Dobson (12-10) took the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 7 innings.
'Our guys just weren't seeing the ball tonight.' Boston AL 's manager said. 'Jansen simply dominated us.' Game 3 The St. Louis AL Browns got by the Boston AL Red Sox in 12 innings at Sportsman's Park. The final score was 8 to 6.
Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings. St. Louis AL came out on top in the 12th inning. Luke Easter led off and got things going when he drew a walk. Don Lenhardt stepped into the batter's box and he clubbed a two-run home run giving St. Louis AL the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. St. Louis AL managed 9 hits in their victory.
Jack Bruner (3-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 innings. Carl Erskine (13-3) suffered the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter allowing 1 hit and 1 walk. Game 4 Bob Feller recorded a complete game shutout as the St. Louis AL Browns bested the Boston AL Red Sox 1 to 0 at Sportsman's Park.
Feller (14-13) escaped virtually unscathed against the Boston AL hitters. He surrendered only 4 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. St. Louis AL had just 5 hits for the night.
