AUGUST 18

First baseman Steve Garvey cracked 2 homeruns as the LosAngeles Dodgers
staged a dramatic comeback over the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 7 to 6 at
Riverfront Stadium.

Los Angeles had the game winning rally in the 9th inning when they tallied 4
runs on 2 hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Garvey who deflated the
crowd as he caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam homerun (his 27th
of the season).  Despite scoring in 5 separate innings, Cincinnati could not
get the win.

Bob Welch(6-5) got the win allowing 2 runs in 2 innings. Terry Forster earned
the save, his 17th.  Joe Sambito(3-5) was the losing pitcher in relief.

'The only way this one could have been better', said Welch, 'was if we had
played it at home.'
