Game 1 Ivan Dejesus had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Three Rivers Stadium where the Montreal Expos beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 6 to 1.
The game started off with Montreal taking the lead in the first scoring one runner utilizing 3 base hits. Montreal finished with 13 hits while Pittsburgh ended up with 8.
The victory went to Steve Rogers (8-11) who went 8 innings, allowing 1 run. Don Robinson (14-10) took the loss. Montreal now has a record of 60-71. With the loss, Pittsburgh has a record of 7-3 lately, 69-62 overall.
Game 2 Ellis Valentine had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Three Rivers Stadium as the Montreal Expos beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 10 to 9.
The game was won by Montreal with a run in the 8th inning. Valentine lined a base-hit. Andre Dawson came next and he laced a base-knock. Dawson swiped second base. Stan Papi was up next and he hit a deep fly scoring the run. Pittsburgh had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
The victory went to Balor Moore (2-0) who went 3 and 2/3 innings, allowing no runs. Elias Sosa got the save, his 23rd. Bruce Kison (4-5) was the loser in relief.
'You have to give Pittsburgh credit, they fought us tough to the end' Steve Bivens said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the victory.'
Game 3 Lyman Bostock had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates topped the Montreal Expos in 10 innings by a score of 8 to 7 at Three Rivers Stadium.
The score was tied at 7 after nine. Pittsburgh was victorious in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Jesus Alou doubled. Freddie Patek next to the plate and he stroked a base-hit. Alou then surprised everyone by stealing home resulting in an exciting win for Pittsburgh and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 5 times.
The winning pitcher was Ed Whitson (6-3) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. The loss was charged to Woodie Fryman (7-11) in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and no walks in 1/3 of an inning.
Game 4 Bill Robinson rocketed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Three Rivers Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Montreal Expos by the count of 14 to 8.
Robinson had a good day at the plate. He lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 2nd inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 10th of the season) in the 4th inning. For the game Pittsburgh out-hit Montreal 18 to 12.
Eddie Solomon (5-7) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Don Hood (0-3) suffered the loss. He was touched for 10 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. |
