AUGUST 25

John Montefusco came through with a solid 8 innings as the San Francisco
Giants defeated the slumping Los Angeles Dodgers in 11 innings by a score of
3 to 2 at Candlestick Park.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  San Francisco came
out on top in the 11th inning.  After an out was recorded, Willie McCovey
providing the offense himself as he belted a solo home run (his 6th of the
season) resulting in an exciting win for San Francisco and a raucous
post-game celebration by the home town fans.  Despite losing, Los Angeles
out-hit San Francisco 8 to 5.

The winning pitcher was Dale Murray(3-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Terry Forster(6-5) took the loss in relief.  The San Francisco ballclub's
record now stands at 74-67.  Los Angeles can't seem to snap out of their
recent 'funk'.  Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last couple
weeks.

AUGUST 26

Left fielder Dave Bergman had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at Candlestick Park where
the San Francisco Giants beat the ice-cold Los Angeles Dodgers 7 to 4.

San Francisco came up with 3 runs in the 5th inning when they had 4 base hits.
After an out was recorded, Rich Chiles kicked off the action when he lined a
base-hit.  Rob Andrews followed and he lined a single.  Jack Clark then
singled to load the bases.  Bergman was up next and he stroked a single
knocking home two runners.  Bergman took second on the throw.  Willie McCovey
stepped into the box and was walked intentionally to load the bases.  Darrell
Evans joined his teammates in the uprising and drew a walk scoring the final
run of the inning.  San Francisco had 12 hits overall, while Los Angeles had
9.

The victory was credited to Ed Halicki(11-7) who went 5 innings, allowing 4
runs. Doug Bair earned his 31st save.  Jim Lonborg(2-7) suffered the loss.
He got hit pretty hard, allowing 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.
