Dark was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He delivered a base-hit in the 1st inning, stroked a single which plated a run in the 6th inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 8th inning and laced a base-knock knocking in a run in the 9th inning. Boston AL had 17 hits for the night while Washington had 7. The victory went to Fred Sanford (1-0) who went 7 innings, allowing 1 run. Bill Wight (1-2) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 10 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings. Game 2 Dom Dimaggio hit 2 doubles and had 5 RBI as the Boston AL Red Sox bested the Washington Senators 11 to 4 at Griffith Stadium. Dimaggio enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He doubled plating a run in the 1st inning and doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 2nd inning. Washington was out-hit by Boston AL , 15 hits to 8. The win went to Joe Dobson (1-1) who allowed 1 run in 6 innings. Tex Hughson preserved the game for Dobson, recording his 1st. Monte Kennedy (1-1) was tagged with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 6 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings. Game 3 The Washington Senators ended a long winless drought and bested the Boston AL Red Sox by a 4 to 1 score at Griffith Stadium. Boston AL never recovered after Washington took the lead in the 4th inning scoring a single run. Washington out-hit Boston AL for the game, 8 hits to 5. The win was credited to Ray Scarborough (1-2) who went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run. Steve Gromek recorded the save, his 1st. Mel Parnell (1-2) was the loser. 'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Joe Kuehl sighed. 'That win feels like a tall, cool drink of water after spending far too much time in the desert lately.' Game 4 At Griffith Stadium the Boston AL Red Sox outdistanced the Washington Senators by a final score of 5 to 1. Mickey Harris (2-0) had a solid outing for Boston AL . He was reached for 5 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings seeing his ERA drop from 7.71 to 4.50. Washington was out-hit by Boston AL , 10 hits to 6. Erv Palica recorded the save, his 1st. Mickey Haefner (0-2) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 6 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
