Larry Gura(0-1) was the loser.  Richard, when asked about his 10 strikeout
performance noted, 'The important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we
lose, what good does it do our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it
feels great!'

Third baseman George Brett had 2 base hits as the Kansas City Royals defeated
the Boston Red Sox by the score of 5 to 3 at Royals Stadium.
In the 4th inning Kansas City scored 4 runs with the help of 6 hits.  The key
offensive moment was provided by Amos Otis who made the crowd come alive when
he cracked a two-run shot (his 1st of the season).  Kansas City had 12 hits
for the afternoon while Boston had 8. 
Rich Gale(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Paul Hartzell earned his 1st save.  Dennis Eckersley(0-1) was the losing
pitcher.
