Game 1 In a one-sided affair at Shibe Park the final score was the Philadelphia A's 11, the Boston AL Red Sox 5.
The Philadelphia fans enjoyed the offense provided by Sam Chapman. He banged out a single in the 2nd inning and smacked a three-run homer in the 5th inning. Boston AL had 13 hits in the game while Philadelphia had 9, but Philadelphia had the more timely hits.
Hank Borowy (13-6) got the win allowing 5 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Chuck Stobbs recorded the save, his 2nd. Joe Dobson (9-7) was the losing pitcher. Philadelphia knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 6 runs in 5 innings.
