Mel Parnell versus Al Brazle.
Mel Parnell faired much better in this game than he did in his Game 1 meltdown. He carried a shut out into the ninth inning though he had escaped bases loaded situations in both the fourth and eighth innings. The Red Sox meanwhile, had scored a run in the top of the fourth when Kress’s fly ball scored Ted Williams from third and another in the 8th when Doerr tripled home…Ted Williams. Considering our 2-0 lead I knew that Parnell was fatigued after his eighth jam so Erv Palica was brought in with his 27 regular season saves. Pee Wee Reese was first up in the bottom of the ninth and he immediately rolls a 1-7 for a single 1-19*. HAL pulled a 20 for the line out as I pick myself up off the floor. Baker is up next and he walks so that Jackie Robinson can roll a 1-7 for 1-5 homerun/fly out. HAL exacts his cruelty by pulling a 3 and just like that the game is tied. Eddie Robinson is up next and he walks only to have Furillo ground into a double play.
Curt Simmons came in to pitch the top of the tenth and Ted Williams singles to the pitcher and Doerr walks. Simmons gets Tebbetts and Merriman before walking Kress. Dixie Howell comes off the bench to hit for Palica and rolls a 1-9 for a single 1-7* but HAL pulls a 13 and it’s only a lineout to Reese. Carl Erskine came in to pitch the bottom of the tenth and strikes out Reiser. Lockman and Edwards follow with singles and runners are at the corners. Marv Rackley comes on to hit, works the count full but then hits a hard ground to Doerr for the 4-6-3 double play.
Al Benton is brought in for Brooklyn . Pesky singles, Boudreau pops out and DiMaggio singles Doerr to second. Ted Williams then slams a (ballpark) three-run homerun for his fifth hit of the game. Carl Erskine is left in to pitch the bottom of the 11th and try to preserve the Red Sox 5-2 lead. Pee Wee Reese leads things of with a home run to centerfield (on a 1-3 home run/fly out split) and I start shaking so bad I can hardly hit the keys. A quick visit to the mound and I only because I can’t fathom who else to bring in to pitch, we leave Erskine out there. He strikes out Baker but walks Jackie Robinson and the Dodgers bring the tying run to the plate in Eddie Robinson. After a wild pitch (Erskine was shaking pretty badly himself) he strikes out Eddie and gets Carl Furillo to pop out. The Red Sox win! The Red Sox! Only this is Brooklyn and nobody is cheering.

Left fielder Ted Williams had 5 hits and 3 RBI as the Boston AL Red Sox outscored the Brooklyn Dodgers in 11 innings 5 to 3.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Boston AL won it in the 11th inning. Johnny Pesky led off and got things going when he hit a single. After an out was recorded, Dom Dimaggio came to bat and slapped a one-base hit. Williams then belted a three-run homer. One out later, Birdie Tebbetts got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Boston AL had a total of 12 hits for the game.
The victory was credited to Carl Erskine(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing 1 run. Al Benton(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief.
