Joe Dobson versus Don Newcombe.
Both pitchers seemed to be on there game for this one. The Red Sox broke (?) through first when Merriman led off the top of the fifth with a single. Dobson sacrifice attempt was fielded by Campanella who threw the ball into right field for a two-base error. Pesky and Boudreau followed with back-to-back sac flies and the Newcombe was down 2-0 giving up only a single the entire inning. The Dodgers broke through in the bottom of the sixth after Reese tripled and Baker singled him home. Jackie followed with a force play and then was thrown out trying to steal to end the inning with the Red Sox leading 2-1. The Red Sox padded their lead on Merriman’s rbi double in the eighth of Papish and Ted Williams capped the scoring with a solo homerun of Simmons in the top of the ninth. This time Erv Palica was up to the task saving the 4-1 victory by pitching two scoreless innings.
The Red Sox get very good pitching in Brooklyn and take a 3-2 series lead back to Boston . My current manager is good for games 6 and 7.
