may 14 David Palmer came through with a solid 8 innings and Mike Schmidt had 2 base hits as the Montreal Expos pulled out a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 1 to 0 at Olympic Stadium. Montreal scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Schmidt lashed a single. Ellis Valentine was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Gary Carter then drew a walk. One out later, Benny Ayala came to the plate and laced a one-base hit making Montreal victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Montreal banged out 7 on the night. The winning pitcher was Pete Redfern(4-2) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Tom Griffin(1-3) absorbed the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 3 hits and 1 walk.
