The VacavilleValley Rockers put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 5th inning and
defeated the New York Knights by a score of 10 to 6 at Knights Castle.
New York never recovered after VacavilleValley took the lead in the top of the
4th inning when they tallied 3 runs on 2 hits. The big moment was provided
by Cliff Floyd who quieted the crowd when he belted a three-run homer (his
13th of the season). VacavilleValley ended up with 13 hits for the game
while New York had 8.
Tom Gordon(2-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Brandon Backe(6-2) was the losing pitcher. He got hit
pretty hard, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
VacavilleValley now has a record of 46-43. With the loss, the New York
ballclub's record is 49-40.

In a close game the New York Knights got by the VacavilleValley Rockers by the
score of 4 to 2.
New York went ahead for good in the 2nd inning plating an isolated run. After
an out was recorded, Albert Pujols smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 20th
of the season). VacavilleValley had a chance in the 9th but they came up
short.
Jeff Weaver(7-5) got the win allowing 2 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Weaver got
help from Derrick Turnbow who was credited with his 23rd save. The loss was
charged to Brad Penny(6-5).
'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Weaver, 'I was
just giving us a chance to win.'

Second baseman Junior Spivey had 2 base hits at Knights Castle where the
VacavilleValley Rockers beat the New York Knights 7 to 6.
VacavilleValley won the game with a run in the top of the 8th inning. Spivey
doubled. Jeff Kent next to the plate and he singled scoring the run. New
York had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
The victory went to Tom Gordon(3-4) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Jason Isringhausen gained credit for his 11th save. Doug Davis(6-6)
suffered the loss. He was unable to control the VacavilleValley offense and
allowed 13 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
When questioned about the loss, Terry Puhl said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this
time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'

In a game for the baseball purist, Esteban Loaiza(4-7) and Pedro Martinez(7-8)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, New York Knights finally emerged
victorious over VacavilleValley Rockers, 2 to 1.
Loaiza put on a good performance. He allowed just 4 hits and 3 walks in 8
innings. Loaiza got help from Derrick Turnbow who pitched great and earned
his 24th save.
