JUNE 14 Bert Campaneris had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Candlestick Park where the San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 9 to 8. Gary Lavelle(3-3) was called upon to do the job and he was the winning pitcher. He was reached for 2 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 1/3 innings. Los Angeles threatened in the 9th but San Francisco was able to put down the rally. Greg Minton earned the save, his 13th. Bobby Castillo(2-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 1 inning of work. 'Some losses are harder to take than others' Billy Vanson lamented after the game. 'This was one of them.'
