JUNE 23

Right fielder Gary Matthews lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI as
the Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in 10 innings by a score of 5
to 4.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  Finally, Atlanta pulled the
game out in the 10th inning.  Pete Rose led off and he doubled.  Jerry
Royster next to the plate and he stroked a base-hit.  Royster stole second
with some aggressive base running.  Rusty Torres was up next and he hit a
deep fly knocking in a run.  Matthews came to the plate and delivered a
single giving Atlanta the victory as 39,714 happy fans celebrated wildly.
Atlanta managed 8 in their victory.

The winning pitcher was Doyle Alexander(2-1) who allowed 1 run in 1 inning.
Bob Welch(2-4) was the loser in relief.  With this win, Atlanta has a 36-44
record.  They have been 6-4 lately.  With the loss Los Angeles now has a
