JUNE 28 46,851 fans were treated to a fine game at Riverfront Stadium as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Cincinnati Reds won by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3. Cincinnati scored all of the necessary runs in the 8th inning scoring 4 runners on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Ken Griffey who brought the crowd to their feet when he doubled which was good for two runs. Los Angeles threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. The victory was credited to Mark Clear(9-5) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Clear was helped out by Joe Sambito who recorded his 15th save. Tom Griffin(2-4) ended up with the loss in relief. His ERA ballooned from 2.93 to 3.30 as he allowed 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning.
