JUNE 28

46,851 fans were treated to a fine game at Riverfront Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Cincinnati Reds won by the
slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

Cincinnati scored all of the necessary runs in the 8th inning scoring 4
runners on 4 hits.  The big moment was provided by Ken Griffey who brought
the crowd to their feet when he doubled which was good for two runs.  Los
Angeles threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

The victory was credited to Mark Clear(9-5) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Clear was helped out by Joe Sambito who recorded his 15th save.  Tom
Griffin(2-4) ended up with the loss in relief.  His ERA ballooned from 2.93
to 3.30 as he allowed 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning.

Right fielder Terry Puhl had 4 hits at Riverfront Stadium as the Los Angeles
Dodgers won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Cincinnati Reds by
the count of 9 to 8.

Los Angeles scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning scoring 2
runs on 2 hits.  After an out was recorded, Ron Cey started the rally when he
drew a walk.  Dusty Baker stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a
single.  Baker took second on the throw.  Rick Auerbach then laced a
base-knock, and an error was also committed, scoring two baserunners.  Both
teams ended up with 12 on the night.

The victory went to Randy Niemann(4-0) who went 2/3 of an inning, allowing no
runs. Bob Welch earned his 12th save.  Frank Pastore(3-5) was hit with the
loss in relief.

JULY 1

Milt Wilcox allowed Alan Boodman to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and center fielder Dave Collins had 3 base hits as the impressive Cincinnati
Reds won a dandy at Riverfront Stadium over the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4 to
3.

The game was won by Cincinnati with a run in the 9th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Charlie Spikes drew a walk.  Collins came next and he laced a
base-knock.  Dave Concepcion then drew a walk to load the bases.  Dan
Driessen came up and he drew a walk making Cincinnati the victor and
beginning a joyous home town celebration.  Cincinnati totaled 9 on the
afternoon.

Wilcox(8-3) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. Rick
Sutcliffe(8-5) was the loser.  He surrendered 4 runs and 9 hits in 8 and 1/3
innings.
