JULY 28

Don Sutton tossed a fine 2 hitter and Davey Lopes homered and had 2 RBI at
Three Rivers Stadium as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8
to 1.

Sutton(8-12) escaped virtually unscathed against the Pittsburgh hitters.  He
allowed just 2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.  Los Angeles banged out 13 on
the afternoon.

John Candelaria(9-9) was the loser.  He allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 6
innings.  When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Candelaria
was lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to
be in for a long night.  Sutton brought his 'A' game with him - he had good
stuff and was able to spot it perfectly.  He probably only made one or two
bad pitches the entire game!
