august 22 Bill Buckner collected 4 RBI with one swing of the bat at Wrigley Field where the Chicago NL Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7 to 5. The Chicago NL fans enjoyed the offense provided by Buckner. He lined a one-base hit in the 2nd inning, launched a Grand Slam homerun (his 9th of the season) in the 5th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. Chicago NL finished with 9 hits in the victory. Bill Bonham(10-12) allowed 5 runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Bruce Sutter earned the save, his 35th. Ed Figueroa(4-9) absorbed the loss. He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. 'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Bonham said, 'this was one of those times.'
