The record for most games managed without ever reaching the postseason is
2,698, held by Alan Bosslet who managed the Cubs from 1968 through part of
1984.
Dennis VanLangen managed 5,230 games and had one visit to the postseason,
losing 3-0 to the A's in the ALCS.
Regardless of postseason success or lack thereof, it's an accomplishment to
run a team (or two or three) for several thousand games -- we've got quite
a few "Connie Macks" here, which is why the leagues have done as well as
they have. :-)

Steve, I don't think you ever held the title. A quick look at the
managerial page shows Mike R with over 7000 games and no titles. In fact
in 60 seasons, he's only made the post season twice, including being your
opponent in 1948. That was his first appearance in 43 seasons with the
Cards. The other time was the 73 O's. 92 doesn't look to break that
streak, but maybe 47 will be it.
I joined SMILEY in the year 2000 shortly after it had begun. I have now
completed 34 SMILEY/PRESMILEY seasons (4,990 games). I can finally put a
championship trophy on the mantle. There are a few of you who have played
more games, but I gotta believe I held the record for longest stretch of
seasons with a World Series Title.
Now someone else can take honor!
